Industry:

Technology Community

.

Deployment Strategy:

Public Cloud

.

Why CrashPlan:

Single, secure, cross-platform solution for endpoint backup

.

What They Love:

Integration with Shibboleth authentication and authorization infrastructure for maximum security and control

Summary:

.

Previously, in order for Internet2’s three-member IT team to manage endpoint backup across all of its devices and platforms, the organization relied on a combination of Connected® Backup for endpoint laptops and desktops; IBM Tivoli for Windows servers; and BackupPC for Linux devices. Managing all three platforms—as well as creating hard copies of server data to ship offsite—required the majority of the staff’s time and resources. The need for a single, cross-platform, enterprise-grade endpoint backup solution became obvious.

.

Critical Needs:

.

  • A single, cross-platform endpoint backup solution
  • Integration with Shibboleth secure authentication
  • Ease of administration through a unified management console
  • User-friendly installation for deployment directly by remote end users
  • Built-in scalability to quickly grow with the organization

.

Benefits:

.

  • Single, secure, powerful endpoint backup solution for all platforms
  • Replacement for three disparate solutions—Connected Backup, IBM Tivoli and BackupPC
  • Easy integration with Shibboleth identity-based authentication for maximum security and controlled access to data
  • Scalable solution with the opportunity to roll out future expansions without system upgrades
  • Alternative to costly, labor-intensive and unreliable server backup
  • Easy-to-use interface and single management console to ease burden on IT and staff resources
